Kitchen Remodel Trends for 2021

The kitchen is the most important room in any home. It’s a gathering place where you cook meals alongside your family, but it’s also the room that can give your house a huge amount of resale value. Take a look at some of the things we think will be the big design trends for the new year, and simple ways you can breathe new life into the most important room in your home.

LUXURIOUS MARBLE

This is an ever-popular choice when it comes to countertops, and 2021 is no exception. With unique veins and peerless luxury, there’s no better time to bring marble into your kitchen.

RELIABLE QUARTZ

If you’re looking to update your countertops but aren’t quite ready or able to spring for marble, an excellent alternative in 2021 is quartz. This stone has a similar look to marble but doesn’t require nearly as much upkeep to keep it looking clean and pristine.

ADD A LITTLE COLOR

This year, it’s all about making the kitchen your space. Add a splash of color to your kitchen this year – whether it’s painting your island or an accent wall, or buying new, colorful kitchen chairs. A fresh coat of paint is an inexpensive way to spice up your kitchen. Make sure it’s a color that really represents you, though, as you want your new paint job/color scheme to last at least five years.

HANDS-FREE DESIGN

We’re all a little paranoid about what we touch nowadays. Luckily, one of the big trends for 2021 will be sleek, hands-free cabinetry. Your kitchen will have a more streamlined look with push-open / push-close cabinets, and you’ll no longer have to worry about matching expensive door handles.

AN ORGANIZED PANTRY

Get rid of the chaos and clutter of last year by finally putting in (or organizing) a pantry. A well-stocked and organized pantry will save you a lot of headaches when you’re in the thick of cooking a meal. Consider adding shelving, a door rack, or containers to help wrangle unruly odds and ends.

SUSTAINABILITY

You don’t have to start composting to be more sustainable in your home. If you’re in the market to replace some of your appliances, look for those that have low emissions and are more energy efficient. You can also choose to use vintage or heirloom furniture and décor to save on the production of new goods you’d use in your kitchen.

INDOOR PLANTS

Make 2021 the year you finally add that indoor herb garden. Ideally, you’ll have a west-facing window to grow your herbs year-round indoors, but in the absence of that consider investing in a small grow station that can fit on the floor at the end of a counter. It’ll add a bit of living color to your kitchen and will offer the benefit of fresh herbs while you’re cooking.

CURATING A SPACE

Along with vintage furniture and décor in your home, the idea of curating your kitchen for a theme or aesthetic will be big in 2021. Look for things like open cupboards and shelving where you can display artwork, cookbooks, and the like that show off your personality through your curated design. With a curated kitchen, your home will give off a more comforting and lived-in feeling.

MAKE A SPLASH

Backsplashes in a kitchen offer a functional utility by protecting the wall, but that doesn’t mean they can’t also be fun. As you’re sprucing up your kitchen in 2021, look to incorporate color and geometric design into an updated backsplash.
